Was _Lili Marleen_ ever part of the Fassbinder DVD
collection sold in the U.S. a few years back? This film,
reportedly shot in English (a version of it anyway), is
certainly not available now. I bought a Region 2 disc
with German dialog and subtitles in four Scandinavian
languages, none of which I speak. I duty watched through
it. Hana Schygulla sings a lot and looks great in it, there
is an overabundance intercut of her singing with German
soldiers in WWII being blown to bits (the film must
have had a healthy budget), and I kind of get the bare
outline of the story. But if anyone who actually saw this
in a language he/she understood can tell me more about
the plot, it would be much appreciated. Thanks! |
