POWELLS.COM INTERVIEWS: MICHAEL PALIN
Shrubberies, slapping fish, three-headed knights, upper class twits,
cross-dressing lumberjacks... "The Pythons: Autobiography" is a lavish,
first-person account of the mind-bending hilarity that is Monty Python: Graham,
John, Eric, Terry, Terry, and Michael; their sketches, their shows, and their
movies. A coffee table book, a museum of all things Python. "What I remember as
the most exciting moments were when the various writing groups within the six of
us would come together and read new material to each other," Palin reflected in
conversation. "On a good day, the air was crackling with ideas. I think I said
in the book that if you went out to make a cup of coffee you could miss six
wonderfully funny gags."
