linux equivalent to vista's slide show sidebar...

This is the last program I've yet to find a solid alternative to.
Google's gadget library has some, but they're poor quality and don't
run very well.

Anyone know of one?

Quit looking for "alternatives". Decide what problem you need to solve
and then look for software that solves it. What problem do you have
that "vista's slide show sidebar gadget" (whatever that is) is a
solution to?

Sorry, never heard of it, I don't use Windows, so I can't make a
suggestion. What does this side bar thing do? If you describe it, you
might get some suggestions of some other tool, command or application
or configuration setting to use.

what you want to look for is widgets for superkaramba or plasmoids for kde4

or configuration setting to use.

It's a little desktop app that displays photos from a specified
directory in a small window, has options like whether to include
subdirectories, whether to use transitions, etc.

Here I thought you wanted something elaborate.

I only suggested gqview because it's basic and does the job.
I figured you'd come back and say it doesn't do everything you want.

It's the one I prefer too.

I hate those things that attempt to take over all my images.
