Hi everybody!
I just can't figure this out. The problem is: I have a crackling sound
in applications.. well, games that use SDL. For example in Hedgewars,
Wormux, Gens (SEGA emulator), etc. And according to Google, I'm not the
only one who does. The only solution that actually works is described
here: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-294732.html
and it says:
edit .asoundrc in your home directory & add the following code.
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 0
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
}
Everything would be fine, but! It only works for me if I put the WRONG
card number in a file above. As long as I set card 1 or 2 or 3 and so
on, the sound in games goes smooth without crackling, but with such
wrong .asoundrc there are come other issues. For example, play says:
"play FAIL formats: can't open output file `default': snd_pcm_open
error: No such file or directory".
And when I put card 0 in .asoundrc it doesn't make any difference from
no .asoundrc at all: the sound still crackles, but "play" and other apps
work fine without errors.
Any ideas?.. Thanks in advance.
PS: My distr is opensuse 11.1 x86_64
Sound card is SB Live!
Neither aRts nor pulseaudio are used or even installed.
If any other info on my system is needed - will be provided |
