Hello group,

Earlier, I wrote about problems with Intel 865G chipset in
Slackware-13.0 (more precisely, they were found in one of the RCs).
Either the screen was screwed, or the keyboard didn't work, or both.
I failed to solve them at that time and had to use an old nvidia card.

Now I'm glad to tell you the problem is solved. The key is the 2.6.31.x
kernel. With this kernel, intel-2.8.1, which can be found in the extra/
directory, just works. No problems with keyboard and mouse.

Other versions of the Intel driver available in Slackware haven't been
tried yet.

Ooh, that's good news - I'd wondered if those 865 chipsets would
ever work again... The 2.9.0 intel driver had quite at least one
fix related to 865 chipsets, so you might consider building it and
seeing if it makes a difference wrt performance and such.

Thank you for the information, Robby. I compiled and installed the
2.9.0 driver today. As far as I can judge, it works fine. I don't know
any rigorous benchmarks to try but it seems that scaling in Google Earth
goes more smoothly than with the 2.8.1 driver.
