I'm looking for a Linux desktop system with average performance but
low power consumption.
From this Tom's hardware article (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/
intel-e7200-g31,2039.html) and another that at now I can't find, it
seems that Intel Core 2 E7200 + motherboard with Intel G31 chipset
could be the best for low power consumption with good performances
(better ratio performance/consumption than Atom, Nano or Via).
I'm looking for a motherboard+CPU with these features (performances
and low power consumption) or also a system, but I'd like one that
works really well with Linux and so far some ASUS mobo / systems I've
seen are Windows only or can give trouble with Linux.
Someone can give me advice for a Linux system of this type?

Thank You, I think yes, also if I can't find anywhere consumption
details (not only there) but they sell also PC with 200W PSU, that are
difficult to find.

What you want to do next is research the processor power usage.
All you need to do is copy the name of the processor to google to
research
it further. The least demanding processor that I wanted to use
was a
dual core Intel Atom at 25 watts but the 1.6 GiHz processor was
reported
as a bit slower than anticipated. I finally gave up trying to
build and settled
for a dual core Athlon at 2 GiHz which is certainly fast enough
for me after
I jammed in 4 GiB of ram. My desktop is in a laptop form factor
with a
short battery life but enough to avoid the purchase of a UPS.
