Hi,

I'm searching info to buy a Linux compatible 17" Notebook.
It seems quite hard to find notebooks with vendor linux support.
What I need is at least a (native ?) Wifi and 3D support.

Is there any serious up-to-date site that contains recent notebook models ?
Are there vendors that support linux explicitly?

Thanks
Ralxan

Not sure about the 17" but check on ZaReason.com. They support
linux.

I got a discounted notebook/laptop with a 15.6 inch screen running
the new nVidia chip set and Athlon X2 64 dual core processor.
This was
bottom end supplied with Vista 32 bit and I installed Mandriva
2009.1 Free
x86_64 with very few problems. The Mandriva Powerpack 2008.1
could not
deal with the nVidia chip set but Kubunto 9.04 x86_64 seemed to work
ok but I really prefer Mandriva so that is what I installed.
Then to make
it fully functional and comfortable I had to get KDE 3.5.10.

Better to check if you can which 17 inch notebooks have which
chip sets and then try to find out if any distro you like
supports it.

IMO
later
bliss

If this is going to help, I use a 15" thinkpad(t60p) with 3D acceleration and
wi-fi perfectly working(also bluetooth). The only downside is that the GPU is
ATI and it's 3D drivers are kinda crappy(I still enjoy Quake Wars with it).
I don't know if IBM has any 17" notebooks, though.
