Initio a100u2w on 7600...

Earlier this year I found the Initio a100u2w driver had been 'improved'
to the point where I got error messages rather than a kernel crash. I
reported those errors to the kernel maintenance and they issued a
patch. See http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=121613124207253&w=2 which
fixes a number of big endian architecture bugs. The actual patch was
against linux-2.6.26-rc8/drivers/scsi/a100u2w.c

After incorporating the patch in my 2.6.25 kernel I found the driver
successfully mounted drives and ran so well I switched all my drives
over to the Initio a100uw2 card and, having compiled the patched
driver into my kernel now boot from it. Both my Seagate Cheetah and
IBM UltraStar run at a much more satisfying speed from this card when
compared with the built-in MESH.

I am not sure of the actual sustained data rate, I tried 'hdparm -t
/dev/sda12' and got 35 MB/sec. However, on my iBook I found 'hdparm
-tT /dev/hda9' gave 18 MBsec, while 'hdparm -tT /dev/hda' gave 27
MB/sec. This implies my test on the Initio card was possibly
erroneous, but even 35 MB/sec is a big improvement over the 10 MB/sec
of the MESH driver.

The system is running YDL 6.0 with kernel 2.6.25.10 at the moment.
