Hello,

I have nscd 2.5-24 (I think, I'm at home writing this) installed to
support nss_ldap for PAM to query LDAP for user and group data.
Unfortunately nscd seems to die randomly multiple times a day on the
same hosts. The log is of no help. It just contains thousands of entries
detailing queries to the directory server for user info. I've done some
googling and never found anything definitive. Someone mentioned upping
the 'suggested size' parameter. I've yet to find what units that
parameter is measured in but I did raise it from the default of 211 to
1987 but it didn't seem to help. After a few hours nscd was dead on 1
out of 4 servers. Not a definitive fix. When I run 'service nscd status'
I get a message to the effect 'nscd dead subsys locked'. I'm paraphrasing.

Any ideas?

thanks

From the glibc INSTALL file, nscd I remember might hit kernel/thread
bugs. What threading are you using? My nscd now is from glibc-2.7 with
NPTL and it doesn't have troubles. You're not still using Linuxthreads,
are you?
