Thufir and I have had a bit of a disagreement about a quote of his. He
said, of me:
Your whole "argument" boils down to: "My students can't
figure out how to use a desktop. Somehow, they understand
the album to song relationship but fail to apply that
understanding to directories and files. But, they can use
the mac very well because it has this super duper consistent
interface. Linux should adopt the Mac interface. Hell, just
buy a Mac."
I say he is lying. Thufir, though, calls his quote "paraphrasing".
OK, so let's see if *anyone* can find any quote from me - ever - where I
make the following claims he attributes to me... using *any* wording:
1) My students can't figure out how to use a desktop
2) My students can use a Mac very well because it has this
super duper consistent interface.
3) Linux should adopt the Mac interface.
Of course, not only would I have to have argued such things (which I did
not), I would have had to have done so in relation to the argument Thufir
was in reference to.
My guess: *nobody* will even try to show this... since *nobody* thinks
Thufir is anything other than an outright liar.
But, hey, I am starting this thread to ask people to stand up for him and
give him the benefit of the *substantial* doubt... try to show where he
could have "paraphrased" his claims.
Note I am not arguing against a couple of his claims about my statements:
* Somehow, [my students] understand the album to song relationship
but fail to apply that understanding to directories and files.
I can see where someone who is too ignorant of the differences between the
song/album and file/directory metaphors could be confused by my comments on
those things.
* Hell, just buy a Mac.
I sometimes suggest people use Linux, sometimes Windows, and sometimes a
Mac. While I do not recall ever telling someone in COLA to buy a Mac it is
possible I have offered that advice to someone I feel would benefit by it.

Look, this is silly. It's not an argument, it's an armor plated walrus with
walnut paneling and an all leather interior. |

Gee, Thufir has been accusing me of forging posts... and you just forged
content in my post about him. That is funny.
In any case I notice you were not able to help Thufir in supporting his lies
about me.
Nobody can. As I said - he is lying.
