I have been running Gentoo for some years. I have sound and video
configured so that they work with Skype and Totem, but I have problems
with Realplayer-10.0.9.
When I open a radio station, e.g. one of the BBC ones, realplayer starts
and tells me that it is playing, however I get no sound on either my
speakers or my headset. The ALSA mixer gui tells me that everything is on
and at full volume. |

realplayer on linux really is borked and buggier than its windows
counterpart and even on windows people avoid it for a damned good reason
try if you can get it to play with mplayer, it may involve some
intermediary steps: downloading the ram, rm file, and playing the link in
previous file with mplayer itself but if you're really serious about
watching news than a little minute of work shouldn't be that much of a
problem |
