(While I know that most Linux users can pretty well take care of themselves,
I thought you may want to pass this along to your PC friends - just in
case.)

As you probably know, Geek Squad is owned by Best Buy and operates right out
of their stores. So, it is reasonable to assume that Best Buy sets the tone
for how Geek Squad operates (except for the influence that Microsoft's
$200,000,000 cash infusion gives them, of course).

Seeing as how the tone for the overall Best Buy/Geek Squad operations are
set by Best Buy, it would behoove people to take note as to how Best Buy
treats its customers before using the services of Geek Squad.

As reported on CNET
(http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9947410-7.html?tag=nefd.top), Best Buy has
been selling customers old ANALOG (that means the TVs are not ready for the
February 17, 2009 switch of ALL television to digital signals) televisions
without the stickers MANDATED by the FCC that warn buyers that the sets will
not work after February 17, 2009 without buying an additional digital
converter.

That's nice. Screwing the public to dump old analog TVs that will work for
less than a year without the new digital signal converters.

Makes me wonder what old, out-of-date crap Geek Squad is installing on
people's PCs.

They will work fine on cable or satellite. Its only if you use a roof

antenna that you need a converter which is free if you get the
government coupon for it. Maybe you should get educated before
broadcasting garbage.

If it's garbage, why is the FCC trying to impose a $3M fine on Best Buy?

Also, most of the digital converter boxes I've seen are in the $50-$70
price range. Deduct the $40 coupon and the box still costs $10-30 +
shipping. Not exactly free.

And so long as jims keep buying un-stickered analog TVs and marked up

Why not try putting one's money where their mouth is and not going to
stores that have such odious marketing strategy and when buying from

I haven't seen a rooftop antenna in decades, but once in a very long
while, I do see a set-top "rabbit ears" antenna in use, usually by
either someone who is really financially down and out or by some
non-conventional type who rarely watch TV because they think it's gone
to the birds and the amateurs on You Tube are more entertaining.

Not just people without cable or satellite either. Just yesterday my
cable signal on my local ABC affiliate's channel turned to a static mess
and I had to dig out the old "rabbit ears" to watch my big event off the
free airwaves instead of the cable I paid for.

Don't expect Comcast to pay my complaint about that too much attention.

The converter is NOT free as with everything else the government comes up
with. You get a $40 discount card and the average cost when you submit the
$40 discount card is about $24 dollars. How well the converter box works
depends on your antenne.
If you want to do something great, stop buying anything from Best Buy.
