Thank you. Knowing which options to use it's easy to find lots of
posts by google that recommend the same. Unfortunately the solution
only works for Suse 10.0 and not for Suse 10.3

Actually it works now. After I added the kernel lines and rebootet, I
first found that the scroll wheel did still not work after switching
back. Some time later (I let the parameters on the boot line though
they seemed not to work) it magically worked.

Occasionally the problems come back, but after reconnecting the mouse
once the scroll wheel keeps working over multiple switching. I did not
yet find a pattern.
