Hi,

Has anyone ever produced a Linux distro spcifically for laptops?

I own a Acer Ferrari 4000 laptop, that I have never been able to get
connected using the wireless adaptor.

What have you tried? Slackware is pretty configurable on my Presario.

People seems to like the latest Ubuntu.

I'm not sure. I have tried the latest two or three editions og Ubuntu
and SuSE. But this wasn't meant to be yet another discussion about how
to make the WiFi work, but more a question about weather somebody has
created a distro targeted for laptops.

Hello,

You can get a specific distro variation for each processor architecture, so
why do you want to mess up with specific distros for every computer type?

It surely exists, but why should it be better than any other distro?
It seems you have not really any idea what Linux/Unix is... As you still
post under Win.

try : uname -a
and : lspci
And then find the right approach to your problem (ndiswrapper, kernel
integration, free driver).

a reference server is:

ftp://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/

Hi,

I've been working with Linix more than 10 years, but I'm no hacker.

On distrowatch they have registered 356 different distros for every
concievable purpose - so why not a laptop distro?

What do you mean - I "post under Win"?

Hello,

Working "with" does not neccessarily mean that one knows how it works: I'm
driving cars for more than fifteen years and I'm still not able to repair
one if it needs a fix...

A Linux distro is only a compilation of a Linux kernel and applications
running with the kernel, so if you want, you can get a Knoppix CD and make
a minimal installation, then compile every application you need, in order
to have your own Debian machine.

By the way, do you really need a laptop distro? And what should it be able
to do what SuSE 10.1, MDV2007, Debian, or Ubuntu can't do?

As I wrote, take your favourite distro and learn to configure it properly so
that it suits to your needs.

Ciao @+

Here is my config and problem...

HP DV9000
Dual Core 2 2.0ghz
2 gb DDR Ram
(2) 100gb HDD
512 MB gforce 7600

Am running Windows XP Media Center on the first HDD. I installed Fedora 6
on to 1st partition of 2nd HDD. When I rebooted the notebook, It just
loaded XP. No grub or nothing, just XP

Anyone have any ideas?
