Detecting Video Properties

Hey all,

I am looking to detect some basic video properties (resolution, length of
video, audio bitrate, average video bitrate) from video files in WMV, AVI,
MPEG, and MOV formats. I want to do this via command line as it is to go
into a CMS, that automatically detects certain properties on upload.

The best I have personally found so far is 'mplayer'. It has many options,
but none directly for outputting the video properties. I tried playing a
video file showing only a single frame with no video output, so that the
program output its status messages.

From the status messages I managed to get the resolution and audio bitrate,
but not the length of the video or it's average bitrate. I would settle for
only the resolution and length of the video.

I have also briefly looked at 'xine' with no luck.

Any ideas?
