Ripping CD's and encoding to ogg

After discovering only cdda2wav rips and encodes correctly with oggenc
to ogg (www.vorbis.com) files using Grip, I find that user can't play
them even though root set all permissions to 777 and user owns files
etc.

However, if I log into a new session as root, I can play the encoded
ogg file that user created.

Well enough, but inconvenient to log in and out so much.

On the other hand root can't start noatun or kaboodle in a session
started by user due to some arts sound server problem (guess I could
shutdown arts and restart it as root?)

user is a member of cdrom and audio, not that it matters apparently.

This is Libranet 2.7 Classic. Worked on it so far for app 2 hours to
get this far, and would appreciate help for user to play encoded ogg
files.
