Anybody with a kde 3.5 / gnome 2.26 system know why gnome menus would be
missing?
I searched for bugs relating to gnome missing menus and they refered to
a conflict between gnome and kde 4.1. I don't have kde 4.x. The bugs
are also marked as resolved. I suspect the fix involved fixing gnome to
work with kde 4.1 and integration with kde 3.5 is broken.
Why is gnome's menu even hooked into kde's?
Any easy fix? Upgrade to kde to 4 to let gnome's menu's work?
I intend to use gnome until kde4 becomes more mature, but I'd rather not
have to rip out kde to make gnome work. I'd rather keep on using kde3.5
until I have a useable gnome setup. |

Missing where?
I think you can disable gnome2 menus in kde3.

There was a thought of harmonize KDE and Gnome/Gnome2, it started well with
making it possible to use menu entries from each other, but then came the
gnome2 and said that KDE had to follow the gnome2 HID for gnome2 devels said
they where right and thats why the harmonization never got to a stage where
you can mix things more simply.
If it would be that they have moved gnome2 menu entries, then make the needed
symlink.

Have fun with installing mono.
