hello fellows

my sister has a vm of slackware 13 and i have noticed
that when i use smbclient and get a file from an old
samba server (iomega network hdd samba version 2.2.7a) it corrupts the
data and the md5sum doesn't match, this happens even on small files (4MB)

on the contrary when using a smbmount or cifs.mount
this corruption does not occur

smbclient version is 3.2.15

can anyone confirm this ?

Not so confirm it, but suggest you use cifs as smb is no longer
maintained in the kernel.

Here I let windows access a samba share from the linux server, I
don't bother having the linux box mounting windows shares. Not
noticed any file corruption -- and I burn CD/DVD in 'doze box from
the linux cifs share without issues.

Grant.

I cannot confirm, but I remember some odd behaviors when running Samba 2.x

under GNU/Linux. Is it possible to upgrade the Iomega device's
firmware? I vaguely remember an issue with these devices around the time
of the release of Windows Vista. Googling refreshes my memory:

In other words, my WAG is that the problem is with the server, not the
client.

only the client has changed
the server was always fine, on slackware 12.0 which
i'm running i don't have the issue.
