Hello,

How should I use a 1 TB hd? The disk is intended to store music files and
videos.
Can just make 1 huge 1TB partition or maybe it's better to split the disk in
two partions?
Or there is no difference at all?

Thank you

In my experience the 1Tb drives have not been reliable.
I would get a second as a backup. Make the first a
single partition for your music. Whenever you add something
to the drive, mount the backup drive and copy the new
stuff right away, then umount the backup drive.

I have had to send 2 1Tb Seagate drives back for
replacement. I also have a WD drive which is very
much slower. I have had no trouble as yet with
a Hitachi drive. As a result of my Seagate problems
I have been very careful to maintain backups.

thank you
as it happens my disk is a hitachi deskstar...i don't like seagate..somehow
i had several that failed ...i usually go hitachi or fudjitsu...

but well, as to the partitions, does it matter the size of the partitions or
one huge
is as okey as 2 smaller?

thank you

Depends on the filesystem, but most should handle them just fine (just
don't use FAT). In general, one large data partition is easier to use
than two smaller ones. An fsck of the large partition is twice as
slow; but you don't do them often. Overall performance should roughly
be the same either way, but the data actually has to move if you move
a file from one small partition to the other.

I'd use a single partition.

I use a single 1GB ext2 partition. Works fine, has for quite a while now,
and I don't have to worry about one of the partitions running out of room.

Have severall internal and external drive of 1 TB. The internal ones
are in a raid 5 system with lvm 2.0 and all volumes formated under
ReiserFS.

On the external drives I usally make 1 partition and format also under
ReiserFS. Two externals (both HD Elements) are in use for over 8
months without any problems.

Oh, look! Yet *another* drooling Win-droid, who's also an ignorant top
poster.

Fuck off, dickbreath.
