Hello,
I have heard of a software called asterisk that has recently become
quite popular. I wonder whether it could be used at home for any
purpose without spending much money. All I have is a computer running
linux connected to a DSL reuter. The computer also has a data-fax
modem port which could be connected directly to my telephone
landline.
Thank you for your insight.

John, this isn't *fair*. You can use Google as well as we can. A
gentle hint about which of the half a dozen different meanings, such
as the telephone exchnge software or the the character '*', seems in
order.
If all you want is dial-up tools or fax handling, perhaps HylaFAX is
more suitable. (I think of it because I wrote the SunOS port years
ago, and did some early Linux porting work.) |

Plus he asked about a week ago in c.o.l.m.
For any open source project, there are two options that take you where
you want to be most of the time.
www.<project-name>.org
and/or
<project-name>.sf.net
For asterisk, they both work. |
