More DVDs than Debian?...

I've heard of the mammut-distributation called Debian. The full
edition consists of 5 DVDs + 5 DVDs for source code. My question: is
this the biggest linux-installation or have any other distribution
more DVDs?
My idea is to install all existing linux software on a 1 Terabyte
Harddisk plus the sourcecode. I mean: really all, including the
freashmeat tree, the old versions of linux kernel and so on.

"All existing Linux software" is a strange concept. There are many,
many subtly incompatible distributions and architectures, and you can
waste a lot of space and bandwidth trying to mirror all of them.
That's the biggest individual distribution I've dealt with, but why do
you want it all? Are you planning on creating a new public mirror? If
so, good, and you might take a look at mirrors.kernel.org for an
example of what is needed. If not, why waste the bandwidth of the
public mirrors? Why not just provide a set of links to such
repositories, and allow others to access them as needed?

I am interested in this. I am working on a project that will build a
distribution from a source code tree. The theory is that if I change the
source code tree, I can rebuild the distribution files against the
modified sources.

At the moment there are some bugs in the toolchain causing incompatibilities
across my IA32 machines, causing fall over as the binaries are shared
across machines. There are also some problems with bashisms in the toolchain
build scripts. Once I have resolved these issues, I will be working on
the distribution building facilities.

Mark.

Difficult task. You can certainly put a LOT onto a 1TB drive. But certainly not all since the beginning. There have been too many distros and too
many versions of distros since 1991.

I do believe Debian is the largest.

Just collecting all of the data could take months.

Buying the DVD's could help. They're pretty cheap over at www.isodisc.com,
and grabbing the 25 Gig or so of Debian's DVD's, and the other 25 Gig
of source DVD's, could be much more efficient than burning all the
bandwidth to grab a mirror.

Ubuntu ships a 700 MB CD-ROM for free.
