I am interested in setting up a boot server (on Ubuntu Linux box),
which will allow clients to do LAN boot of Windows XP/7/other.
Really appreciate any help/links on this subject. |

First off, familiarize yourself with the options. While it doesn't seem to
cover Windows netbooting, you should read the Network-Boot-howto at
tldp.org (http://tldp.org/HOWTO/pdf/Network-boot-HOWTO.pdf). It describes
the technologies available for a network boot.
I suspect that you will need specialized MSWindows tools and education in
order to configure a Windows image that will netboot. The last time I
looked (admittedly, several years ago), it was close to impossible to get
Windows to boot from the network (it took a lot of customization, both in
the boot environment, and in Windows).
You won't need such specialization for a Linux boot, though. Linux netboot
is fairly straightforward.
