I have a 2.5 SATA HD connect to USB to the PC. I am copying MP3's to the
/home/user/music directory on OpenSUSE 11.1 internal HD.
Why can I only get 900kbs transfer rate? Even USB 1.1 should go 1.5 to
12 mbs. USB 2.0 should reach 450mbs. |

Take the theoretical maximum of the specification. Subtract overhead from
design + maximum throughput of all other technology involved + overhead
from software design + general system load.
USB 2.0 reaches 450mbs... in the lab where it's being designed, maybe.

Looks like you are using USB-1
it's definitely way too slow to be of any use...you really need to go
with USB-2.
However, if you do have working USB-2 ports and are only getting that
kind of transfer speed, then it's probable your cable is only USB-1
USB-2 cables are of greater diameter than USB-1 cables |
