Dear all,

without known reason the rights of /dev/null were misconfigured to
read "o=", what means, that, when logging in under any account other
than root, I got error messages from bash scripts during startup.

Manually correcting the rights to "crw-rw-rw" solved the problem, but
I just read that other users had similar problems with Ubuntu etc,
caused by malfunction of udev.

Is this a known problem in Mandrake also, and, does someone know how
to prevent udev to make such crap again?

Best regards,

Markus

You might want to start using alt.os.linux.mandriva instead of
alt.os.linux.mandrake. Anyone running on a Mandrake install needs to
upgrade to a currently supported Mandriva distribution.

Ubuntu problems not necessarily found on Mandriva.

IIRC, I can not remember anyone on Mandriva/Mandrake complaining about any
such problem with /dev/null.

PS: You might want to read http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Providing distribution (Mandrake, Mandriva,...) install (-free, -one,... ),
release (9.x, 10.x,200n.x, 201n.X ), type (Gnome, Kde, ,...),
arch (i586, x86_64,...) Desktop (Gnome, Fvwm, Fluxbox, KDE, Window Maker,...),
might get you more precise instructions or a Subject Matter Expert to
help with your problem.
