Good morning.
i have a sun server, headless, that i use with ssh login, text only.
now i would to run X on the server (headless), and use X on the server
with a pc (using the pc like an X-terminal), but i search in google for
the instruction to do it, but i haven't find them.
can you help me?

Assuming that, by "a pc", you mean a computer running Linux, you would
a) make sure that your "pc" is running in GUI mode,
b) make sure that your "sun server" permits SSH X forwarding (check it's
sshd configuration to be certain, enable it if it is not already set)
c) ssh from your "pc" to your "sun server" ("ssh -X <servername>"). In your
ssh session, make certain that the $DISPLAY variable has been auto-set
(If it isn't set, then you need to fix your "sun server"s sshd config)
d) through the ssh session, start some X application on the "sun server".
The X application should display it's windows on your "pc", if everything
is set up correctly.
OTOH, if your "pc" runs some version of Microsoft Windows, then you can
follow the instructions in http://linuxgazette.net/129/pitcher.html
You probably should review the sshd setup instructions in that article
anyway, and use them to help configure X forwarding on your "sun server".

You don't need to run X on the server to do this -- X runs on the pc.
If you login to the server using ssh -X you'll enable X forwarding,
and X applications you start on the server will display on the pc.
(well, this depends on some configuration specifics -- but it should
either work or give some errors that you'll be able to track down). |
