Hi there!
On one of my boxes I'm running Mandrake 10.1.
Everything works fine, but just one thing is confusing me - There is a
DVD reader and a DVD writer in the machine. In the list of devices they
show up like this:
$ cdrecord --scanbus
Cdrecord-Clone 2.01-dvd (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Jrg
Schilling
[..]
scsibus1:
1,0,0 100) 'TOSHIBA ' 'DVD-ROM SD-M1612' '1004' Removable CD-ROM
1,1,0 101) 'HL-DT-ST' 'DVD-RAM GH22NP20' '1.02' Removable CD-ROM
[..]
This is valid as long as I do NOT mount a 1GB Intenso USB memory stick,
which is connected to a dual PCI- to - USB- card.
In this case only the USB stick is shown in the list and both DVD devices
are 'invisible' to cdrecord. But both DVD drives can be mounted and it is
possible to read data from them.
The devices are mounted in the way
/mnt/dos ==> for the USB stick
/mnt/cdrom ==> DVD reader
/mnt/cdrom2 ==> DVD writer
Any idea what could be wrong here?
Best regards,
Markus

That is ancient.

That is an ancient version of cdrecord and is also a clone. Get the most
recent version of the real cdrecord

I trust you know that it's no longer supported, and that Mandrake has
been renamed Mandriva.

There is some sort of a conflict in the bus id, that is causing a problem for
the scanbus, but not for mounting. On my system, my ide channel 0
devices show up as bus0, ide channel 1, as bus1. A usb device connected
to a usb port on the front of my system as bus2, and a device connected
to a usb port on the back, as bus3.
In cdrecord, try specifying the device name, as in /dev/hd?, instead of
using the scsi numbering system, assuming these are ide drives.
If that fails, you may need to update to a new version of Mandriva, and
the latest cdrtools, to see if they still have the problem.
