In the past I have seen large box-like mounting platforms at public stables,
especially where there are handicapped riders. I would like to have one built.
Can anyone tell me the dimensions? Offer any tips on construction? |

We just used the small back landing when we tore it off the house to
build a deck. It's probably 3 1/2' X 5' or so, however high a porch
is, with 3 steps. No reason you couldn't build a ramp either. It could
spoil one - you just step over onto the horse.

Building a box with a step is something even I could do. And I don't "do"
tools very well!<g>
Or, I could go to Lowes and get another nifty two step plastic stool for
about $10. Goes in the bed of the truck (or the tack room in the trailer).
Cool.

I agree with the store-bought plastic step stools. I got one from walmart a
few years back and use it all the time. (And it is light weight so you can
drag it around to where ever you need it!) Make sure you get a good sturdy
one, though! I'll bet the ones with the tool box compartment would work
pretty well, like someone mentioned before. |

If you want a truly fancy one, get the 'already cut' risers (for making
stairscases) from the stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. You'll
need a pair for each set of "stairs" you want (i.e., stairs -- platform
-- stairs).
Cut the riser to the height you want. Use 2x6 or 2x8's at the steps.
Build whatever platform you want. Just don't plan on moving it easily ;-)

And fall into a slumber deep
Hear this little prayer of mine
Hope it gets to you in time
Bless those on land and sea and air
Who fight for freedom here and there
Send special blessings from above
Protect them with your shield of love
Return them safely, we humbly pray

And the Home of the Brave |

Cool.
The best ones are the step up tool boxes. Not just a mounting block but you can
keep grooming stuff in it.
As for building a mounting block. It can be any size you want...... you don't
need specific dimensions.
There is no standard....
Hunter
actually there is a standard, but only if you want one like the OP
asked for.
For a simple mounting block, I like the step up toolbox too, and also
have grooming stuff in it. I mount from the ground usually on a 16hh
horse, my wife likes a block for her 14.1hh pony, so the block lives
in the trailer most of the time.
