Lost a fellow rider last night in my area - 30yo female, sport bike
rider. Hit a guard rail and died at the scene. She wasn't outrunnig
anybody; just on her way home.

She attended a weekly 'bike night" thing. My son and his friends were
there. He said she pulled out afterwards about 5 miinutes ahead of he
and his friends.

I hope this a sobering moment for this group of sportbike riders. I
know it was for me and I don't even ride with them.

Thanks for the links. They are great.

One of the things the skydivers have said about rescue dogs is that they
have to be careful with them as far as handling. Once they've skydived a
few times, some will jump out of the airplane not realizing that they aren't
wearing a parachute or attached to an owner. Apparently they love it.

The falcon link didn't work right, but I found this one:

Wow! Those are clearly predatory birds. I've never seen detailed photos of
a falcon. They look very carniverous.

One story I heard of a dog's first skydive was that he seemed quite
frightened at the start of the jump, but then got into it, and once on
the ground, bolted back to the runway and back into the airplane for
another go.

I learned a cool thing about eagles the other month: training feathers.
Adolescent eagles grow feathers are are larger than the adult ones. That
makes the "airframe" easier to handle, if lower performance, so the bird
can learn to fly. Then, when it matures, it drops those feathers and
replaces them with smaller ones. These maneuver faster and let the bird
fly faster.

http://www.eagles.org/vueaglewebcs/bio_develop.htm

"The size of the juvenile bald eagle is remarkable in that it is
actually larger than the size of the fully grown adult bald eagle. This
is because the plumage of the juvenile bald eagle is actually longer and
thicker than that of the adult bald eagle. The adult bald eagle is more
streamlined with fewer and shorter feathers than the juvenile. This
streamlining contributes to the more graceful flight of the adult bald
eagle. The longer feathers tend to make the juvenile eagle a bit clumsy
in flight."

I think that author missed the point.

I'm not surprised. There was a guy at the airport who used to fly a 152
with his dog as a passenger. All he had to do was open the passenger door
and the dog hopped in just like he was going for a car ride. I don't know
about dogs. My cats would never go for that.

You're probably right, but when I look at the size of a bird's skull, hard
to believe there is room for a lot of training and learning in there. But
there must be.

No, Reeky rules dictate that you should be a judgmental bastard and piss on
her grave.

Shows what you know. Pissing on graves is for those times when it's
personal and the asshole died before you could beat the living shit
out of them one more time.

Why must it be one extreme or the other? If someone is using a bike
sensibly as transportation and some meathead in box creams them, I'm
likely to feel bad about it. If someone intentionally pushes the
envelope for a thrill, I'm less likely to feel bad about their demise
if they eat it.

Trust me, I'm one who regularly pushes the envelope so it's not about
being judgemental. Should I take myself out trying to scare myself
silly, feel free not to weep for me.

Do you think they actually know they ARE wearing a 'chute when they are? I
have a feeling they've no idea at all.

It is cool to talk to the skydivers, because they have really neat stories.

I'm picking up some nomenclature now. Apparently when somebody hits the
ground without a parachute deployed (usually human error, and almost always
fatal), they refer to it as a "lawn dart".

The skydive instructor who works in Marshall (and has many neat stories) is
named Stan. He has about 6,500 jumps.

One of his students posted a video, here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abpb7kvqvVw

The guy with the long hair is Stan.

What amazes me in talking with Stan is that he doesn't even get anxious. He
sleeps just fine the night before a day of jumping. I'm not sure I could
ever relax like that.

Hmm ...

I tend to agree with you. If someone buys it because they're
inexperienced that's one thing, but if they buy it because they're
doing things on the bike that tey should be doing on a closed course,
it's harder for me to feel sorry for them.

Wrong continent you thick twat.

Does that really require a comment other than "Do some research"? Nah, I
didn't think so.

Indeed your comments have been incredable weak, venal and as ignorant

I've just had a piss, so what do I do now?

Take your prostate medicine.

Mmm, doesn't that stuff MAKE you piss? Maybe you meant "Stop taking your
prostate meds"?

No, old men are a lot less grumpy when they take their prostate meds.

You would know. Me I'll never have that problem...research shows daily
"exercise" helps.
