I've read about 200 messages about Italy Spain and not one that
deserved answering.
More than usual a fight between italian bashers and italian defenders,
mostly food for trolls.
For what it's worth, here my 2 cents.

As predicted, Italy would have suffered a lot without Pirlo: it was
evident that we lacked the brain of the midfield which was quite
crucial giving the current form of other key players.
Spain didn't play a wonderful game, but definitely better than Italy,
although they created few chances for the ball possession they had:
Italy had to play defensively in the center of the pitch, not having
Pirlo, but Spain tried all way to encourage it: still too much 'look
how nicely pass the ball to my mate' stuff, giving italian defense
time to get prepared.

Italy's worst mistakes imo was the same of the others matches, leaving
Toni all alone, which was even worse considering his poor state of
form. Still, all the times Cassano dribbled his opponent, he was 40
mt. from the goal. How was he supposed to be dangerous in that
position? It was evident to everybody but Donadoni that you can't
leave your striker 20 mt far from the other team mates.

The refereeing hasn't been very good: there was a penalty on Villa and
a foul by Grosso just outside the box.
Also the yellow on Villa was exaggerated, the guy probably fell.

The penalties were a disgrace: how the hell can you choose Di Natale,
when he's been booed all time and he has to shoot a penalty under the
spanish sector?!? (btw, since the ref flips the coin for the less
crucial choice of the side at the beginning of the game, FIFA should
seriously think of flipping the coin for the penalties too: it was
evident that choosing to shoot under the italian or the spanish sector
was very crucial).
