Reading the Bren Ten page at the gun zone a while back, I got to
thinking about all the aftermarket magazines for handguns that they
have, and certainly there was a business in making them in the 1980s. I
was wondering if anyone in other companies started to making
aftermarket mags for the BX, and if that could have helped save the
pistol and the Dornaus and Dixon company. (Maybe if they had outsourced
the mag production?) There were definitely other problems, from all
appearances, but the mag shortage seems to be one of the most memorable
in the minds of gun folk on the net.
Or was the niche not there, as far as number of pistols? Like if you
make aftermarket magazines for 1911s or Browning Hi-Powers, you know
there are a certain number of gunners out there, and if even a small
percentage wants to buy your mags you are set, and the Bren Ten was a
new weapon with a limited run at the time. But if so many buyers would
have been wanting more mags.... oh well.

"A little learning is a dangerous thing," Dave.
Yes, Tony Scherer tooled up for the Bren Ten magazines, albeit a little late
for the purposes of D&D.
And D&D most certainly _did_ "outsource" their magzines, to two different
companies, one here and another overseas. They never intended to
manufacturer their own magazines.
