Just have to share this.
I greatly admire Pullman's HIS DARK MATERIALS, but I grew up in Texas and I
never heard anyone talk like his Texan, Lee Scoresby. Just found someone
who does: Cap'n Bill of Cap'n Bill and Trot in Oz.
Hm, Scoresby flies a balloon. (And much of HDM is about tough old males
befriending a gutsy little girl.)
Hm. Oz stuff shows up all kinds of places....
