Semifinals, 2nd leg (away goals count):
LDU (Quito-ECU) 7-0 River Plate (Montevideo-URU)
[Claudio Bieler 18' (PK), 83', 89', Carlos Espínola 28',
Bolaños 45+2', Méndez 57', De La Cruz 78'; agg.: LDU 8-2]
Despite flying to Quito five days before the match, the
Uruguayan River couldn't hold to their small advantage.
Bieler opened the account from the spot, Espínola headed in
a corner to make it two and Bolaños completed a headed
pass by Calderón to end the first half with a two-goal cushion
on aggregate. Méndez and De la Cruz scored twin goals from
outside the box into Dos Santos' right hand corner and later
Méndez found Bieler twice with through passes for two
beautiful goals to make it an historical thrashing.
LDU meet Fluminense (Rio de Janeiro-BRA) in a rematch
of Copa Libertadores 2008 finals.
Tchau!

Strange result.
I guess that after being down in the score, River staged a massive
attack, leaving lot of spaces behind, which were taken advantage of
adequately by Liga.
JR Carrasco's teams are known for their all-out-attack mentality, and
I guess that doesn't couple well with games played at high altitudes.
Tchau!
