Ed's recent operetta post reminded me of my duty. (and I am a slave
of duty...) I have uploaded new selections to the operetta group,
http://groups.google.com/group/rmo-operetta-group/files?hl=en .

I added some alternate recordings of songs from Zigeunerliebe, while
leaving the older ones still up. I find it interesting to compare
Schellenberger's rather straightforward rendition of Hor ich
Cybalklange, with the new one I added by Sari Barabas. Sari really
schmaltzes it up, but I prefer it that way. Sounds to me like she
sings some of the song in Hungarian; I do not know much Hungarian, but
it sure isn't German. The tenor is Heinz Hoppe in the new uploads.
Harry Friedauer sings the light, comic role in "Lieber Onkel," with
Christine Goerner.

I also added some selections from Zarewitsch, with Wunderlich and
Melitta Muszely. I included the duet for the "comic" couple, Heute
Abend komm ich zu dir - WIlly Hagara and Christine Goerner.

What a terrific selection of clips, Clem. I've saved them all to my
hard drive and burnt them to CD for car listening.
Many thanks,

I've been listening to the Zibguenerliebe and a few of the Zarewitsch
so far....really great music and a lot of fun. I should get to the
rest tomorrow. Wonderful style in the singing.

Thanks

I have been watching quite a few uncirculated Voice of Firestone
videos this evening, and I was surprised at the number of operetta
selections that appear. Most of what I watched was with Merrill,
Tucker,Siepi, Munsel, Hines. Tucker sings a song from an operetta
called "Princess Pat" by, I think, Herbert. It's a very beautiful
song, and Bjoerling also sings this on a different Firestone video.
Tucker also sings some excerpts from The Student Prince. Merrill sings
"Yours is my heart alone" and also "Every day is ladies day with me,"
plus "Stout Hearted Men. " All of these are sensational. There are
also many show tunes included, in addition to opera arias, duets, and
one or two trios, such as Costa, Tucker, Hines in the final trio from
Faust from 1963.

If you would like these, Paul, just let me know. No charge, of
course. The same offer is open to anyone else reading this.

Best,
Ed

Thanks, Ed! "Every day is ladies' day" is from The Red Mill, which
has a lot of lovely music. I would like to hear Robert Merrill
perform it. Let me know what is available; I would love to have them.
