Today, I saw a guy swimming the butterfly without using his legs. This must
take extreme effort!
I saw a woman swimming freestyle and breathing only when both arms were in
the water.
Then, there was the woman swimming without exhaling until she stopped and
stood up and then put her head back down and started off again.
Or the man who swims exactly 16 strokes and then flips over on his back to
rest. This way, he makes about 2/3 of the length of the pool. He's holding
his breath, too, but he thought putting on long fins would help him get to
the other end of the pool without breathing. I've never seen him make it to
the other end while swimming on is stomach.
This is almost as good as going to the airport to watch the people go by,
but I only get to do that when waiting for a flight to take off. |

The world is full of people who can't swim well, so why do you feel the need
to tell us of such things that happen in your local pool? Just interested to
know. |

It's Usenet - she can post whatever she likes. If you don't find it
interesting, ignore it. It's on-topic, which ought to be cause for
praise out here in the Unmoderated Country.

Well, she did complain loud and long when I raised Michael Phelps ADHD
in a discussion, as if I was slurring his reputation to use her words.
But she regularly makes fun of people who can't swim well. Not by
name, of course, but still, what is the point of it? |

If you wanted to find out how to help them swim better, you would have
written, "How should I approach a newbie to show them how to swim
better?" But you didn't mention you wanted to teach them anything at
all, and you ended with "This is almost as good as going to the
airport to watch the people go by, but I only get to do that when
waiting for a flight to take off."

Only to people who believe (like you, apparently) that having a
psychiatric problem is a slur on their reputation. |

Gad, but you are dense! I am trying to revive a dead newsgroup. I am
inviting comments on the odd way some people behave, not making fun of
people. I am mentioning it so that someone will tell me how they approached
such people and helped the newbies to learn how to swim better.
You don't. You let them approach you, which most likely will never
happen.
Put it this way, you see how smiffy here posts and you wanna bounce
over with your enthusiastic helpfulness.
It wouldn't go down well, would it?
Quote: As far as
Michael Phelps, you did slur his reputation. You certainly have a terrible
time admitting a mistake, Martin. In fact, you have a reputation for that,
as well as rising to argue anything and everything. As an example, you
jumped in and stated that everyone mentioned in the examples given in an
earlier post on breathing was breathing wrong! That is the accepted way of
breathing in the crawl stroke, but you stated it was wrong. Everyone could
see you were merely trying to start an argument and nobody took the bait.
