Speaking of DZs, where are people's home dzs now? Not that it's
important, I'm just curious.
For me, Skydive Green County in Xenia is my home DZ and I always feel
like I'm home when I pull into that driveway. With the demise of the
Bidwell, Xenia became home and stayed that way through three
marriages, several jobs and probably nearly a dozen places where I
lived. It and the great people who run it are one of the few constants
in my life.
That said I very seldom go there these days. I love the place, and it's
the only dz I jump at. I know there are others around, including a few
near it, but I have no desire to jump at any of them, never have,
never will.
The problem is that between working all week and a bad back I have a
hard time with the drive which is at least three hours each way. Come
to think of it, I don't think I made it over there at all this
summer.
I enjoy jumping low key at Vinton County because it's 24 miles from my
house and I can get my skydiving fix with a few jumps a month now.
I'm looking at retirement in about three years and I'm hoping that
then I'll be able to head to Xenia and spend some time, camp or get a
motel room, jump for a couple of days instead of a couple of hours for
the same drive, and get back to it. But in the meantime I've been
incredibly lucky to find the situation in Vinton County and I don't
plan on giving that up either, but things change whether we want them
to or not. Except Xenia, it stays a good place to be, year after year,
decade after decade.

I have never had a home Bob. DZ's and their personality always seem
to be changing in the wind. Just like the business side of them. For
a while, when a dz first started, you would have a good core of cadre
personnel and up jumpers. As time went on, drop zone bums would come
out of the woodwork for packing, AFF JM, tandem hoes, , and slowly but
surely, things would run south. Pretty soon, the only ones left are
the Staff.

As I traveled, I noticed there was always about 3-5 really good up
jumpers at each location. And after about 2 weeks, they were sick of
me, and I them. Time to move to the next drop zone.

But today, I"m like you. I"m going to retire in 3 years with an early
retirement. I"m going to get in my 5th wheel, and go find MY home
drop zone. I know I will find it between Alaska and Key west.

You forgot to mention Video Geeks, at first I thought Jerry K. had
shown up but when I saw AFF and Tandem
I knew he couldn't even fake the talent to hold one of those
positions, even as a third rate bum. ;->

I think Jerry got tired of getting his ass kicked and finally took the
Lodi Wiz's advice and quit replying, probably the first time that punk
couldn't wear down a Adult or in my case " Beyond Senior Citizen"
type. Anyway he went off to Ballunerfest
and hasn't posted since. Either that or Federal Agents finally caught
up with him on tax evasion or some other unlawful
nickle and dime chiseling behavior and are denying him computer
privileges. Small Jim tried to take his place but
got to arguing with Lodi Mike about: If "I said I wasn't a liar" in
one of my posts so I just ignored his ignorant young butt.
What I actually said was "I was prone to telling sea stories" The
young generation, specially the never served in the USN or USMC must
not understand what sea stories are. Like fish stories they are based
on a true occurance...Its just the fish gets bigger over time. The
punk must think a sea story is the unvarnished truth when actually
theres enough varnish in
every sea story to supply a Battle ship, Any Admirals flag ship or a
whole fleet of them from two or three Nations.

Anyway....Bob tried to start another thread by asking for peoples home
DZ's and nobody replied. I think lurkers may be shocked since the
insults quit flying-They can't believe their good luck...Be friendly
with the Yankee--He can't help where he was born, tell him your
favorite DZ if you don't have a home one anymore. blue sky's and cold
beer kid! 0~Wink

Boy, give him a straight answer. Quit being all shifty like a
politician, talking in circles and giving a opinion on the state of
affairs around the sport and/or DZ's you patronize. If its ASC man up
and say so, I won't get on you too hard because a jumper has to jump,
driven to it in fact, face it skydivers are junkies for free
fall....If you have to jump with the devil or a DZ full of devils/back
stabbers & scoundrels or even the equivalent of a used car lot, a
tandem mill whatever so be it...Getting your knees in the breeze is
the important thing. I'll understand-I'm not totally mean &
unforgiving, just sorta, kinda OK maybe half way hateful ,,,,,,,trust
me, trusssssssst me State your main DZ don't be mealy mouthed! heh heh
heh 0~;->
