I was watching a pied-billed grebe fishing at a local park the other
day, and noticed something kind of odd. Just before he would dive, his
body would sink a lot deeper in the water. I'm wondering if he was
emptying his lungs before diving, so he could go under easier. Or
maybe compressing his feathers to expel trapped air?
