Interesting golf ball question...

This morning, Sunday, after church I went out golfing. The
temperature was 39 degrees. My brother had told me that you shouldn't
leave your balls in the car overnight and it takes them 24 hours to
get up to room temperature.

He said that cold balls don't go as far as warm balls. I would have
thought that cold balls would go further than warm balls. So who knows
the answer? Should I keep my balls on the kitchen table or in the
freezer?

(It probably doesn't matter. It's probably only a matter of a few
feet.)

SNIP

There are two things going on in cold weather

1) Cold golf balls do not travel as far as warm ones, independent of the
temperature of the air

2) Golf balls (independent of their temperature) do not travel as far in
cold air vs. warmer air (the viscosity of cold air is higher than warm air)

From what I understand #2 is the more significant factor.

They're cheaper. Most people who don't expect balls to last long
vote to save money. Not all though - and I find a fair share of
ProV1 balls in the crap. But I have adequate experience looking for
balls there.

Very interesting. Do you have some sources to back up your
explanations?

I would think that cold balls would contract, making them smaller and
harder, thus flying further.

http://www.franklygolf.com/Q_A/balls.asp is one link that discusses this -
lots more available through Google, or your search engine of choice.

Sorry. That link goes to some dumbass named "Frankly Golf."

Hardly a serious source. Try posting some serious data from MIT or
someplace well known. That would be real leadership.

And vote for Palin-Ahhnold in 2012.

Frank Thomas is the former head of equipment conformance for the USGA. He
has "professional knowledge" (either through his own work or the work of
professionals on his staff) of the effects of temperature on golf
equipment/performance.

If you don't like my sources then do your own damn search.

DAAAAA...... cold balls don't fly for shit. Cold
and hard are different things. Top rocks used to fly a ton, more so
than a noodle.

I couldn't find anything.

Look - you made one of the absolutely stupidest statements (cold golf balls
shrink enough in a 40'ish degree F temperature change to affect their wind
resistance) ever made on RSG (which is REALLY saying something). I ignored
that and tried to answer your question as best as I could. And I did this a
couple of times.

Obviously you missed the whole point. Considering your previous post
showing your lack of intelligence this does not suprise me. I don't
give a rat's ass about wind resistance, and I never mentioned wind
resistance. I said that a cold ball would be harder, and when struck
with a club it might tend to fly further. Of course you can't
comprehend hardness and that is why your wife left you, dumbass.

Vote for Palin-Arnold in 2012.
