Thanxx to D/Flynn for the alert. All praise is due to Mr. Mayles and
his cast of assistants. Larry Holmes is right: many of us in
the Lehigh Valley who saw him fight as an amateur still can't
believe he became the undisputed HCOTW.

This is a remarkable documentary.

P.S. It makes Ali's fight with Berbick all the more
amazing because he almost won that one.

I thought it was pretty good though depressing. You could see that
Ali's speech and movement had slowed considerably and he had no
business sparring let alone fighting.

Please note that Holmes did not showboat or humiliate his older foe
and then wept after the fight. In other words he was a helluva lot
more respectful than Ali was when facing past-their-prime fighters
like Archie Moore and Floyd Patterson.

It was a moment also noted by the absence of the guy who
taught Larry everything, Ernie Butler. If anyone knows the inside
story about this situation, we need to read it.

He wept out of frustration because he knew the crowd hated him for
winning. Holmes is easily top 3 of all time. Ali would be down around 5
or 6 for me. His defining moment was Foreman.

And Ali was not a nice guy - disrespect was his middle name.
