coyotes Tuesday in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia
RCMP have confirmed.
Cheticamp, N.S., RCMP were called to Skyline Trail in the northern
Nova Scotia park at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, after receiving a 911
call that a hiker was being attacked by two wild animals.
Police said a 19-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital in Halifax
with undetermined injuries, where she died overnight. The woman was
believed to have been hiking alone.
RCMP Sgt. Brigdit Leger said one coyote was shot after it continued to
act aggressively. A second coyote fled into the woods.
The 950-square-kilometre park covers 20 per cent of northern Cape
Breton and has 25 hiking trails. It was Atlantic Canada’s first
designated national park. |
