Aka Marian Curtis Foster. She was born in Cleveland and died in Long
Island, New York in 1978.

(covers and dolls)

It seems the name of the doll Miss Flora McFlimsey came from a 19th-
century poem, "Nothing to Wear," by William Allen Butler.

Note that the spelling is different.

From Contemporary Authors:

"The drawings she does for her books are usually watercolor and
gouache, with black-and-white put in with a Chinese ink stick. Many of
her original drawings are housed in the special Mariana Room of the
Hockessin Elementary School Library in Wilmington, Delaware."

I can't stand that the 1980s editions of Mariana's books do not have
the exact same abstract watercolor illustrations as the originals.
Considering that other not-so-famous illustrators' works have been
faithfully reproduced, why couldn't they do it for HER books?

I love the humor in the books, too.
