I went out to the backyard yesterday afternoon to try and see a huge
flock of Grackles that I could hear gathering in the trees behind the
house. suddenly a bird flew over just tree top high that wasn't a
Grackle. Just as he was over my yard he banked and I got a great look
at the underside and flared tail of a Broad-winged Hawk. I think he
was a little late and a little out of range but there was no doubt
about what he was. Yard bird number 91.

Thanks. The funny thing is I have never seen a Broad-winged Hawk any
way except from underneath. I'm not sure I would recognize one
perched!

Same for me with Northern Harriers. So seldom see them perched that
it always takes me a moment, even with the distinctive discs on the
face.
