It's 2009.
At some point, if you clowns want to be taken seriously, you need to
hand out suspensions for fighting.. ANY fighting, and get the nonsense
and the children who perpetuate it the Hell out of the sport.
It's just ridiculous that I can't watch a game with my son without
explaining why grown men are getting into slapfights with each other
every five minutes over contact to which they object in a freakin'
contact sport. That stuff matters and has me reaching for the remote.
Well actually, I can... if I watch European hockey.

IAW a lot in This Poast. There aren't fights in college hockey, and
all this hue/cry about Taking Liberties(tm) is bullshit. There aren't
any crippled college kids due to cheap shots that I can see. |

It is actually less likely in 2009 for there to be suspensions, or
even game-long penalties, for fighting in the NHL than it was in 1999,
or 1989, or 1979, for one very simple reason; the league knows what
one season-long strike did to it, and they don't dare risk another
one, which would certainly be called by the players' association in
order to protect the goons - ER, UH, enforcers. (That, and the minute
you hand out suspensions, you end up in a situation where a team's
enforcer is out for a game, leaving the team's star wide open for a
take-out.)

It would help your case if you spelled your Subject: correctly.
If you don't like to watch fighting, watch NCAA hockey instead. It's
actually quite interesting, and there are no all-out fistfights
(although there are still often the little shoving matches after a
whistle).

In American rinks players tend to wear off jerseys of their opponents. Looks
truly peculiar. And definitely it has little to do with fighting. Fighting
takes place in rings. |

Your ire is pointed the wrong direction. If you want fighting
out of the NHL, start exacting real penalties on teams that
take cheap shots. Not the players who perpetrate them -- the
*teams*. And I'm not talking fines here.
Get the cheap shots out of the game, and fighting will
vanish on its own.
