Yes, my friends, it is indeed "La Morte di Verismo." When you
look ahead to the Met "Futures" page, and note that a number of
unemotional and overrated divas are taking over the Italian repertory,
it is just a disgrace..but I know from various teachers (of my
vintage) that they do not CARE anymore..and so the days of
Muzio,Favero,Zeani,Carteri,Soviero,etc..are gone..gone..gone...
The only diva who seems to have that important "morbidezza' in the
voice, and who at least sings with emotion in the Italian repertory is
Mme.Gheorghiu, but unfortunately the voice is so small, it does not
matter either.
Che peccato....we are doomed..and do not tell me I am nuts
(again)....If you cannot tell what should be part and parcel of roles
like Tosca, Mimi, Adriana, Liu,etc.....well, **&^%%$*& to you too,
buddy!!!!!

With
love,

The Latvian soprano Kobalevska? (sp?) who will be singing Liu later
this season should be very good based on her Boheme last year. You
liked her too, Charlie.
