Will BCCI tone down IPL? ... Atleast the salaries of "younger"
players.

That's just internal politics of the board. Lalit Modi's growing
influence must have made others in the board uncomfortable. Let's hope
Modi prevails.

Modi had been going around with the proposal for a while but it was
ICL that finally forced BCCI to take a serious look at it. Now that
threat is gone. Once the genie is out of the bottle it is hard to put
it back in but with that threat gone if some other things line up
there could be some danger; failure of the IPL teams to reach the
semis at the champions league could be one of them (how were the
crowds?). If the economy remains in doldrums and Champions league
fails financially there could be some trouble. That will be the first
test. If Champions League goes the other boards lose their cut and buy
in to the IPL. Just to keep the buy in BCCI may have to keep the
League going and it may become an albatross around their necks. IPL
will probably remain but the salaries may get somewhat curbed if the
enthusiasm is curbed.

Anything may happen, but my point is that comment from one BCCI
official is no indication that BCCI as a whole is losing interest in
IPL. That kind of infighting is almost to be expected and something I
had pointed out earlier here.

As for Champions League being an albatross etc. Couple of points -
crowd and ratings for IPL matches have been decent. Ratings in
Bangalore for Bangalore matches was up from IPL, actually. Secondly,
it is such an inexpensive tournament to organize. The players are
already paid for - through their contracts with franchises/state
associations. So the only major expenses are the prize money and
travel. Compare with the IPL where the eight franchises each pay
upwards of $5 million as player salaries per year for a total cost of
$40 million. Compared to that, $6m in prize money and another couple
of million in travel expenses is nothing. Plus, they already have a
long term deal with ESPN for telecast rights.
