a lot of people have kind of tried to downplay Pacquiao's wins over
Hatton and De la Hoya---especially the De la Hoya fight.
With Oscar he was dead on the scale etc. Curiously, i never remember
Nacho softening the message to De la Hoya in the fight by telling him
something like, 'do want me to stop it? You're too drained' etc. No,
he asked Oscar if he wanted him to stop it because Pacquiao was too
fast for him. It should also be noted that Beristain is picking Manny
over Cotto, and those aren't the words of a guy who thinks his charge
JMM handled Manny twice and the other guy he had in the ring with him
was DOA.
Oscar himself has recently admitted he took too many shots from Forbes
and was getting beaten up in sparring for Manny.......that's a whole
other scenario from being dead on the scales. Over the hill......?
well, perhaps so, but almost NOBODY was saying that before hand, and
it really bugs me to see so many people write Pacquiao's recent
successes off as luck and whatnot........it's pure idiocy, the guy's
as good as you're going to get at the moment, and is always pushing
himself against bigger, stronger guys.
By analogy, if he were Mayweather, he'd no doubt be eyeing Kelly
Pavlik and working towards that.....at least that's the way i feel,
and this is coming from a guy who's going to be a lot less surprised
to see Cotto KO Manny than the other thing. But should the other thing
happen, i now have my doubts that he'll get his due.
Maybe that's the way everything works now in the internet
age......guys get way too much blind support from their fans and way
too much blind shit from their not-fans, while the middle ground (or
even something closely resembling it) is a thing of the past?

I think Dan's point is well taken re: Internet boxing forums anyway.
Everyone simply accuses each other of being a "hugger" or a "hater."
There's very little real discussion. Maybe if all the boxing forums
were moderated, or at least some were, there could be more reasonable
discussions. This particular usenet group used to be fairly good, but
most of the regulars have left over the last 6 years or so.

If posts, for example, over at eastsideboxing's forum, were filtered
to remove posts using the words: "hugger" "hater" and "exposed" that
would be a good start.
