Rising Lion Press Release

Rising Lion brings you “ American Dread” , twelve new R L originals,
one dub track, and a moving acoustic cover of the late great Dennis
Brown’s “Wild Fire“
Singing/songwriting reggae veteran Rising Lion is set to bring his
soul-stirring brand of roots reggae to you with the new Lion
Productions CD release American Dread. Recorded over the last six
years while on and off the road of his New Day and Don’t Lose Yourself
tours, the album offers a glimpse into the persona of one of the most
promising songwriters and pioneers in the American reggae scene. It
features thirteen songs, and one dub with acoustic, electric,
uplifting, and inspiring arrangements, showcasing the Lion’s unique
ability to captivate an audience with his honest compelling voice and
expressive guitar playing. Rising Lion’s new album is available now on
I-Tunes, Napster, GreatIndieMusic and CD Baby as well as through
traditional retailers, and on his tour.
Rising Lion is known for his live performances every where he plays
and no one performs this brand of innovative yet rootsful reggae
better than he does. The Lion draws from his entire, 17 year career,
from his early jamming, dance oriented songs on New Day to his thought-
provoking multi- genre reggae on Don’t Lose Yourself, from recent
recordings to overlooked gems.
The disc opens with an introspective look into the life of Natty
Dread in the U S with the album’s title track American Dread , and
then slides into a rootsy dancehall feel with What The Lion Say. My
Life, which gives a peak into the personal life and growth of the Lion
is the third song on the disc and is featured in the independent movie
release One Thing on Indelible Pictures. For all of the lovers out
there, Could You Be, which has a video on youtube.com right now, Wild
Fire, a touching acoustic version of the late great Dennis Brown’s
song, Letting You Back In, a look at love and relationships, to the
hip winding and honest Love You rounds out the love songs. Push on
Natty Dread, Survival, I Am Going, and Herbalist, an ode to the
sacrament of the herb are songs that will become the soundtrack of a
generation in the near future. The album offers a countryesque I See
the Light, and an optimistic nyabinghied Tomorrow which tells of hope
and promise. He is also joined by album co-producer and mastering
engineer Rob Soviero on the last track American Dub, a moving and
hauntingly Jamaican dub version of the title track. The Lion, together
with Michelle Talley, and Dionne Palmer add sweet and rich backing
vocals and textured acoustic touches on many of the album’s songs.
The artist was first inspired to write the American Dread cd while he
was touring in support of his first two releases performing in large
and small venues around the country for college, club, private events
and fundraisers. “I realized that there are a lot of people around
America who listen to and support reggae music from all cultures and
walks of life”. “Reggae is alive and well in U S, and I felt that I
might be able to, and wanted to represent this in music and song”.
“The idea of getting back to basics and why I started playing really
appealed to me.” An idea that undoubtedly appeals to his legion of
fans also who have helped make the last two albums and tours a
success.
