Here are the highlights from the four (4) Scrabble games played last
night, Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at the Dover Scrabble Club
(Delaware).
We averaged 33.2 points per turn as a group. I messed up Elsie's spot
for AMETHYST. Even I feel bad about that. She had to make do with
ANATOMY. (There were blanks involved.) Lynn had her first ever
triple-triple: MODERATES. Louise played BUZZ (no blanks) and later
added -ES to hit double-word score. They laughed at my WIRILY and
UNKNOTS. They said you *untie* a knot. I said you unknot a tie. I
took a dive on CIVILER and VOCALION. I thought the latter was an old
musical instrument. (Must of been thinking of the Vocalion Church
Organ on a reed organ record I have.)
Tile oddities: How's this for a groovy game? - 9S, 2J, 2X, 2Z, 7L, no
H, and no Q. Another game had 5C, 5V, and 13O. Every game is fresh
and different!
Scrabble II is the purest Scrabble being played on earth. A few,
small, natural rule fixes keep players gunning for longer words. It
rescues the game from the same, tired, old, connect-the-dot plays of
baby Scrabble words. Scrabble II does not allow for phony words. In
our club, we use a conventional dictionary, the American Heritage.
Scrabble II is more intelligent, challenging, and sophisticated than
modern American tournament-style Scrabble in every way. Heck, over 40%
of the oddball plays on championship boards wouldn't even be allowed
in our club. See:
