How many people carry in their cars extra clubs, which they switch in
or out of their bag depending upon the course they are playing at, or
wind or mud or even health?
Do you change often? Or do you only change when you see an obvious
advantage?

Zero. All of my extra clubs sit in my basement. The only things I
have are a couple of putters that lost their magic, an old wedge, and
a 3 iron that I took out of my bag for a hybrid.

To pick from I have:
3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 woods
18, 22 and 26 degree rescue clubs
2-iron through PW, SW and LW
Currently I'm carrying the driver, 4w, the 3 hybrids and irons from the
5i up. I like hitting the longer irons and feel like I'm more accurate
with them, but the hybrids are so much easier to hit from bad lies.
These days the 2i and the higher lofted fairway woods are just toys for
the range. |

While it doesn't sit in the car, I have an extra driver that sits in the
house, near the front door. Both my drivers are identical KZG Gemini's with
the same shaft - Harrison Striper J. One driver is 9 degrees, the other is
15 degrees. I alternate them as needed. For tight courses I use the 15.
For long, wide open courses, I use the 9 degree.

Neither of my cars have any extra clubs, and if they did, I don't see
why I should carry their extra clubs anywhere for them! :^) |

Ummm., the 15 degree would be a three wood, no?

(The size of the head doesn't make it a driver, only the loft)
Quote: wild guess
Given that wood numbers are usually odd, everything below 15, maybe
14 degrees might be considered a 1 wood.
/
The clubs players today choose may tend toward odd numbers, but woods
have always had both odd and even numbers; I still have an old 4-wood
in my garage, and old-timers often carried 2-woods. My old 4-wood is
16* and my current 3-wood is 15*.
OIC. Are the results different enough to justify both in the bag?
Quote: I suppose that historically a 1 wood was called a driver, but today it's
probably more the size which makes the difference. To me, a driver is a
club which is usually only used with a tee peg from the tee due to it's big
head, all other woods may also be used from the fairway. And yes, I know
that some people hit the Big Thing from lies through the green, too, with
good success.
IMO a 1-wood IS a driver.
ACK, but ist each driver a 1-wood?
Quote: At least my two Yonex ADX 200s and my
Snakeyes 330cc all say they are. The Snakeyes is 10.5*; I don't
know the loft of the Yonexes.
After my last post I saw a definition that every tee shot is a drive
regardless of the club used. So, the driver may be the (metal) wood club
which someone uses most frequently from the tee(?)
Ciao,
Paul |
