Ranked No.1 but not able to win any grand slams....when did SA last
won a major tournament in any form of the game of cricket? As far as i
remember, it was the Champions trophy in B'desh they won over 11 years
ago. Heck, they have not been able to win even a triseries for a long
time. (last time was 2002 in Aus??).

Don't worry.
1. They are on home ground, with no Shaun Pollock in charge of math.
2. They just massacred Windies.
3. Their Warriors club team just beat a full-strength Kiwi side, whom
they play in the first stage.
4. The players are all pissed off at not being in the running for any
awards.
5. England are unbelievably crap, which pretty much guarantees RSA a
ticket to the semis.
6. Australia, a likely semi or final opponent, think they are world-
beaters after thrashing the English. They will be no match for the
fired-up Saffers.
7. Mahela will ensure that the SL top order will not be held together.
In addition he is planning to complete his 2003 reprise by dropping
several slip catches.
8. The cold weather will severely hamper the performance of all the
subcontinental teams; the timing of the event is perfect for the home
side.
9. Most teams will focus on pace attacks; however RSA alone know that
spin is the key and will strangle teams via De Merwe, Botha, Peterson
and Duminy.

Being such a short tournament, any team that hits their straps from
the word go could win. The recent World T20 backs this up. |

at 7 ?? yeah right! |

Yes winning the World Cup is definitely the missing piece of the
otherwise complete South African cricket puzzle. Can't wait! |

The point is not what is missing in the puzzle....point is can SA
feel
proud of being No.1 without winning a single major ODI tournament
since 1998....even in Tests they have yet to win in India after
2001....yet to win in Sri Lanka....Aussies have done both of these in
last 5 years....of course i will say the same thing about India too
as
they have not won a major ODI tournament since 2002....shows that
there is some major fault in the Rankings system.
The ranking system works as follows: more points for winning, less for
losing.
South Africa at present are No.1 solely because the Aussies have lost
a number of ODI series/tournaments and Test series since late
2007...
SA has been winning more, Australia has been losing more. See above.
SA drew home and away with Aus in Tests last series. Here's the
clincher - SA beat England in England 2-1. Aus lost 2-1 to England in
England. See how it's working?
SA took over the no.1 ODI ranking by beating Aus home and away (7-3)
but they still are defending World Cup, Champions trophy
holders.
Correct. And South Africa are on top of the world in both forms of the
game.
The Champions Trophy starts tomorrow. Enjoy!
PS if you need more help with the concept - SA drew with India in
India while Aus lost.
etc etc.
Who do YOU think should be no.1 in the rankings?- Hide quoted text -
No.1 ODIs - Definitely Australia
No.1 Tests - Australia
No.1 20-20s - India or Pakistan
Which only goes to show that you are clueless on the subject.

Remember this is the person who also nominated the India T20 team as a
possible number one in their field, having won two (against Bangladesh and
Ireland) of their last seven matches.

makes you an incorrigible asshole. But i leave it for others to decide
