Video from last night's season opener. Celery City Sodbusters played
to the calling of Barry Dupen. Band members last night were Marilyn
Branch, Pete Humphries, Jim Cooper, Richard Whitfield, and Moira
Powers. Great dance with over 90 dancers showing up to help get our
9th season off to a great start.

Those guys and gals are pretty good, but what I noticed was, whoa, no
men in skirts, and a conspicuous lack of gray hairs. What's up with
that?

What I noticed was the tempo. They played at a nice, danceable speed,
as opposed to too many contra bands who seem to think that contra
dancing should be a contact sport. Don't dance around Asheville
without body armor.

Yep, they're a wonderful dance band with a not too tight, not too
loose kind of sound that's good for propelling folks around the dance
floor and tickling your ears enough to pay attention.
About half the turnout was college students (undergrad and grad) from
area colleges. We sometimes do have men in skirts (and women in
pants!). Dancers often range in age from mid-teens up to late 70's
(sometimes 80+). It's wonderful, diverse bunch,
